Preparing Your Body For a Cleanse/Detox

New year, new you! That’s pretty cliché, I know, but it definitely has some truth to it! Let’s start the new year off with one foot forward and talk about cleanses. First things first, you can’t just jump into a cleanse. You need ample time to prepare your body to ensure that it is in an optimal state to begin your cleanse. Starting a few days prior to your cleanse, preparing your body and treating it right will ultimately benefit you and your body will thank you for it.

Here are a few basic rules to follow if you want to start your first cleanse:

  1. Reduce the intake of any harmful substances. That includes alcohol, caffeine, excessive sugars, and nicotine. These substances will only add these toxins into your body, which is exactly what the cleanse is trying to remove. For optimal results from your cleanse, you should stop taking these substances 2 to 3 days before starting your cleanse.
  2. Stay hydrated! Drink 4 to 6 glasses of water per day before starting your cleanse. This will help you feel more energized during your cleanse.
  3. Eat healthy. Give your body a head start by eating clean. Avoid eating fried foods, red meat, and foods high in sugars and fat. Fill up on fruits and veggies in the days before your cleanse, it’ll help make the transition into the cleanse easier and more enjoyable, for both you and your body.
  4. Get a good night’s sleep. Your body is going to be working overtime during the cleanse, so a good night’s sleep is very important. Get a head start by making sure you’re getting at least 8 hours of sleep in the days leading up to your cleanse, it’ll make the transition easier on your body.
  5. Exercise! You will need to adjust your workout routine to match your energy levels in the days leading up to and during your cleanse. Don’t over do it, you’ll need to listen to your body and only do what it allows you to do.
